Just wanted to share a little project I’ve been working on behind the scenes—aluminium ear cages for the 1:2 scale Hachette Build The Dalek. I’ve honestly really enjoyed building the kit so far, but there are a few bits I always felt could be better. The ear cages stood out to me—they’re such a key part of the Dalek’s look, and the plastic ones just didn’t quite do it justice.
So, over the past month or so, I’ve been putting together a much more accurate version at the right scale, but this time made from proper aluminium. They’ve got a great finish, really solid feel, and no painting needed—just bare metal, clean and screen-accurate.
The best part? They’re a direct swap. No messing about with cutting or glue—just pop the old ones off and slot these in. I'm currently test-fitting them on my own Dalek to make sure everything works perfectly before offering them up for sale
I’m really happy with how they’re turning out, and once I’m confident they’re spot on, I’ll be making a small batch available so others can do the same upgrade at home. It’s a small detail, but I think it makes a big difference.
Also, this is just the start—I’ve got a few more mod ideas in the works. The interior of the Dalek, for example, is pretty under-detailed in the kit, so that’s something I’ll definitely be tackling in the near future.
More updates soon, and thanks for following along!
